Salon Ownership & Salon Roles

A common denominator among all of our salon spotlights is always a strong salon team with solid leadership behind it.

Being in charge of a space, a brand, and other workers is not for the faint of heart. It takes years of consistent growth, determination, and navigating challenges. As an owner you wear many hats: marketing director, CEO, HR, accountant, receptionist, maintenance, custodian, and so much more. But, at what point as an owner do you decide that although you can, should you?

In the last few years especially, self-care and work-life balance are becoming increasingly more important. The exhausted, dehydrated, double-booked stylists are no longer desired. Being healthy, balanced, and rested is becoming increasingly attractive. But how does one achieve this?

Each salon has a unique way they run their space that works for them and their team. Check out some of our favorite salon roles below!

Education Director - A point person for setting up in salon education stylist to stylist, and finding education courses from ManocoBlue that fit your needs. This person is important to keep the salon up-to-date, motivated, and inspired.

Marketing Guru - Staying up-to-date on social media is a must now-a-days in our industry and is normally the first thing to fall through the cracks. Find your person who doesn't dread social media. Find the person who can create content within the salon such as: action photos of stylists, a day behind the chair, or showing off the work that is being created.

Business Director - An owner needs someone to talk to about business decisions being made. Whether it is salon location, salon updates, new salon rules, the business director is the go-to person to talk to about your ideas and create an open path for stylists to share theirs.

Salon Trainer - The stylist who takes new stylists under their wing. They train and groom the new stylists showing them the ropes of how the salon is run, how to stay busy and productive, and how to create fabulous hair.

At the end of the day, each business is unique, but we have found our salons that open up leadership opportunities to stylists to create lifelong careers and growth within their space. Many minds can be better than one, so though you might be able to do it all, you certainly don’t have to.
