What’s your Mantra?

Cheryl built Mantra Salon & Day Spa from ground up (literally) in fall of 2002. She

started her career as a nurse, then became a massage therapist, and finally found her

home as a full-service salon owner.

Mantra has found great success in being a full-service salon by being a one-stop shop

for people within her community. There is also something to be said for employees

having the same training and working in the same environment. This allows her team to

build up each other and share the wealth by being able to confidently recommend their

clients to each other within the salon and spa to provide a relaxing full service experience.

Mantra started off with 9 employees and has since grown to 42 employees. Most of

these employees have been with the company for at least 10 years. Talk about great

company culture! She sees great value in her employees and believes that building trust

with people is extremely important, because being able to rely on people is key as she

is not a hairstylist behind the chair herself. Additionally, Cheryl also hires new

grads/apprentices to learn with her more seasoned stylists. She sees potential in the

idea of these new hires being like an open book/clean slate which makes it easier to

teach them the Mantra way.

Twice a year the Mantra team closes the salon for education, participating in employee

appreciation day, and fundraising for various causes.
