Spring Cleaning with Lucas-Cide

It’s officially March, and you know what that means, right!? Spring cleaning! Excellent salon cleaning practices have never been more relevant than they are right now. We sat down to ask some questions to Jeff Geisinger, VP of Sales at our favorite disinfectant brand: Lucas-Cide!

Lucas-Cide is a hospital-grade disinfectant that was designed with Salon Professionals in mind. In fact, the LUCAS-CIDE® #222 RTU ready-to-use hospital-grade disinfectant has received a 60-second kill claim for COVID-19, allowing salons, spas, and barbershops to save time cleaning in between clients.

Q: How should stylists be communicating their cleaning procedures to their clients?

Jeff: Let’s assume there are different levels of interest that a client may walk into the salon with. The first would be very interested and truly concerned about theirs and their families’ well-being. They are attentive to hand sanitation, wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, etc. A friendly and informative statement such as: “This station and chair has been thoroughly disinfected prior to your arrival” would go far with this person. Another person might demonstrate that they have little interest in sanitation. So like every other conversation topic we have to gauge our client’s level of interest. Consider using a “Safe Space” mirror clings for every station to announce precautions have been taken. This allows the client to comment on the decal, signaling they might like additional information.

Key Takeaway: Consider using a mirror cling or small sign at your station to communicate that stations are being cleaned!

Q: Why is it important to stay on top of cleaning procedures?

Jeff: Outside of the medical field, cosmetology is one of the few licensed professions that actually touch people. In fact, the State Boards that regulate cosmetology are more like health boards and are very concerned about public safety. We operate under very strict regulations from State regulatory boards. We even have industry-specific Federal Environmental Protection Agency guidelines on disinfection to follow. In today’s world, it’s probably safer to go to a salon than just about any other type of gathering place and get personal services performed.

Key Takeaway: We are held to some pretty tough standards in this industry. You should consider sharing some of these standards with guests to increase thier confidence in the safety of your space!

Q: What makes Manocoblue a good partner for lucas-cide?

Jeff: I’ve personally known the owners of ManocoBlue for decades. When this product became available, ManocoBlue was the very first distributor I approached because I knew their hearts and minds are always on the stylists’ and salon owners’  best interests. There are plenty of disinfectants on the market that ManocoBlue could distribute instead of Lucas-Cide. Frankly, a distributor makes more money if they sell one of our more expensive competitors’ products. But ManocoBlue knows that they won’t succeed if their customers don’t receive every advantage.

Key Takeaway: ManocoBlue knows that YOU deserve the best.

Q: What sets Lucas-Cide apart from their competitors?

Jeff: Lucas-Cide is made in Toledo, Ohio and was specifically formulated by a former beauty products dealer to address the surfaces and pathogens found in salons today. Some so-called “hospital-grade” disinfectants are only capable of controlling staph, strep, and pneumonia. Others were created for a different age when carbon, steel, and leather were what tools and equipment were constructed from. Materials in today’s salons are chrome, formica, stainless steel rubber, and plastic. The older formulas either don’t do much against today’s highly-mutated pathogens, or they are harmful and drying to modern materials. Are your styling chairs showing premature wear and tear? Chances are, the old-style sanitizer you are using is causing damage.

Key Takeaway: Lucas-Cide was designed with YOU in mind and has kept up with times to make sure it is safe to use on modern materials.

Q: Any spring cleaning tips?

Jeff: Dark and damp! Pathogens of all types hate bright lights and dry spaces. They run and hide under sinks, under equipment, the undersides of countertops, etc. Our Lucas-Cide #222 Ready to Use no-mix formula is perfect to spray in these dark and damp areas. It’s available in spray quarts or convenient gallon refills and should be used liberally on all surfaces from “hi-touch” to stop transmission and “no-touch” areas to get into the hiding places.
