The Cleveland Hair Boss

You may recognize the name, Sally Lemmo, from her Instagram (@clevelandhairboss), where she provides educational information and shows off her beautiful work to over 30,000 followers. Starting in our industry as a barber, Sally has worn many titles since then. She has been a salon owner, stylist, barbershop owner, educator, Global Color Ambassador for Lanza, and One Shot Nomine! Sally currently owns a chair rental salon where she works behind the chair and manages her successful social media platforms.

Sally has owned multiple salons and learning what has and has not worked has allowed her to create systems that work in business ownership. Sally was able to sell two of her salons for a profit and even sold them to past stylists who had apprenticed under her at her space.

Sally carries Lanza and is a Global Color Ambassador for the brand. When Sally first came across Lanza, she had realized that her previous brand was no longer inspiring her to grow. She found that Lanza inspired her and also encouraged her to grow as a stylist and business owner. A few other things that Sally loves about Lanza is its boutique business plan. Lanza is not everywhere. Another huge bonus is Lanza’s green mission statement - the ingredients are wild-crafted and give back to the environment.

Sally has found a new passion for the industry with the way she can reach people via social media. “I wanted to serve people and reach the masses in the industry,” she explained. Her account grew substantially over the last year when she shifted from sharing pretty photos to sharing authentic content and educational videos. Below are some insights that Sally shared as we chatted about social media growth strategy:

Find your ‘why’: If you want to grow your following, think about why you are doing it. Reflect on what you are looking to get out of it. For example, a stylist who is looking to educate fellow stylists will need to go beyond posting beautiful after-photos. This stylist will want to post graphics and video content that educates!

Be consistent: Sally said that she “cannot express that enough” posting and engaging consistently are the most important aspects of growing. One way to ensure consistent content is to set aside time on your schedule for social media.

One of the things Sally talked about that resonated with us was that she had to understand her priorities. She went on to explain that you need to know your priorities to understand your why and ultimately find balance in your life. Take a few moments to reflect on your priorities today...
