The Sweet Life with Creme Brulée

Katrina, owner of Creme Brulée salon, is no stranger to hard work and perseverance. Opening her own salon and pushing the industry standards has been a dream of hers for over the last 10 years.

Katrina has been licensed since she was 16 years old and in high school. She then attended Paul Mitchell the school in Michigan in order to polish her foundation in cutting and coloring. Completing Paul Mitchell’s Prestigious Honors and Deans program enabled her to become a platform artist and celebrity stylist. In addition to her industry success Katrina also has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a master’s degree in business. When Katrina decided to pursue the million dollar salon of her dreams, it took her over 5 years of consistent savings, hard work, and research to do so. She was told “no” 23 times before she received her first yes.

Her main focus over the last 6 months since opening has been breaking the culture barrier and creating an unmatched luxurious space for both her stylists and guests. She has worked hard to hire stylists who are masters of their own craft, specializing in all hair types and textures. Her stylists are set up for success not only with continuous education but with savings plans and a large beautiful space to stay busy behind the chair, as well as feeling valued with a comfortable multi-functional safe space to relax during downtime.

Part of breaking the culture barrier includes an exclusive salon experience that welcomes any gender regardless of race, ethnicity, or belief. Open 7 days a week to cater to different cultures, Katrina has thought of every intricate detail to set the perfect ambience. From the custom embroidered satin robes given to each client, to the eclectic music and the salon’s signature scent, every single detail sets the tone for an overall top tier environment, well-deserving of every culture and background to feel welcome.

In addition to a luxury experience, it was important for her to build a brand that not only matches but encompasses her unique style. Katrina has created a multicultural brand that embodies cultures and will last generations. She chose Davines because it is not easily accessible, is B corp, and is large enough to work on every single texture of hair.

Advice for a younger stylist:

● Follow the 3 Rs. Read, review, research.

● The more you do, the more you know. It's not just about owning a business; it is so much more. Create a brand image that is intentional and positive. Take control and remind yourself that you are the expert.

● Keep your circle with like-minded people, and appreciate all the support that you are given. Don't forget to give yourself grace, and reward yourself. Don't be afraid to step back and reevaluate.
