Chemistry Salon winner of Davines Top Sustainable Salon in North America

In 2021, Davines launched the first edition of We Sustain Beauty, a global socio-environmental

campaign to take climate action through regenerative organic agriculture. Davines has

partnered with The Rodale Institute, a leader in the modern organic movement, coining the

phrase, “regenerative organic agriculture”. Through farmer training, organic research and

consumer education, The Rodale Institute has become a global pioneer of organic agriculture.

In 2023, Davines, in partnership with The Rodale Institute, announced a nationwide contest for

salons to have a chance to win an all-expenses paid trip to The Rodale Institute. Salons had to

be nominated by their DSC and needed to meet the following requirements:

- Has purchased or committed to purchasing a We Sustain Beauty 2023 promotion

- Is an influencer-caliber salon

- Has an active Instagram or Social Media channel

Maly’s@ManocoBlue is very proud to share that of all the submitted nominations, our great

salon partner, Chemistry Salon, has won this wonderful sweepstakes! Nominated by

Maly’s@ManocoBlue DSC, Brenda Hauxwell, Chemistry Salon is located in Berkley, MI, a

suburb of Detroit. Morgan Kruizenga, owner of Chemistry Salon, believes that beauty and

sustainability can be one and the same. In 2019, Morgan put that belief into practice when she,

and her husband Ken, transformed a historic 1940’s transmission shop, (located in downtown

Berkley, MI), into a stunning sustainable and life-style focused urban hair salon. The salon

features environmentally-conscious construction such as radiant flooring – which uses less gas

by heating water to maintain the temperature throughout the building – as well as

recycled/repurposed materials and LED lighting.

Chemistry Salon is also committed to being environmentally-friendly with its products and

practices and only partners with cruelty-free sustainable, B-Corp companies such as Green

Circle Salons and Davines Beauty, a world leader in sustainable beauty products. Through its

partnership with Green Circle Salons, Chemistry is able to recycle 95% or more of its waste.

Even excess color is saved to be repurposed and hair clippings are recycled and used to make

hair booms that are placed in the ocean for oil spills.

With more than 30 years in the beauty industry, Morgan is not only passionate about her craft

but also about her employees and clients. Morgan has worked with many leading hair-dressing

companies. In addition to being an art director for Toni & Guy Education and Academy,

where she taught classes locally and nationally, she also helped launch its Madison Avenue,

New York Location. With her exceptionally strong background in education and training, she

makes it her mission to share that expertise with her employees. Morgan expressed, “Mentoring

my staff and helping them grow so they can become future leaders in our field, as well as

financially independent, is so important to me.”

Chemistry Salon has won an all-expenses paid trip to the aforementioned Rodale Institute in

Pennsylvania, including airfare and overnight accommodations for two. This trip will be an

experience of a lifetime that few get to enjoy. The campus grounds display the education and

understanding behind regenerative organic agriculture, and how these efforts support

sustainable beauty. In addition to educational benefits, Chemistry Salon will be able to enjoy the

beautiful campus and products of regenerative, organic agriculture.

Please join us in congratulating Chemistry Salon on this well-deserved honor!
