Green Circles Educator, Will Simpson, shared with us some ECO tips that will save money and reduce your footprint following a recent class as part of our Blueprint Series. Read On for a few of our favorite tips:

1. If you haven't done so yet, perform an energy audit.

This can identify where heat, electricity, and water are being wasted and will make recommendations for simple fixes, like door sweeps, faucet aerators, and more.

2. Install a smart thermostat.

This will allow you to drastically reduce heat (winter) and AC (summer) during off-hours while making the salon comfortable again before opening.

3. Plug hot tools & computers into surge protecting power bars or timers.

These reduce phantom power during off-hours.

4. Install motion sensors for lighting in areas that aren't in constant use

Rooms such as Storage Rooms or Restrooms can oftentimes be forgotten about causing unused electricity

6. If you're still issuing receipts, consider going paperless and offering printed copies on request.

Most guests will not need a paper copy and it helps to not print unneeded papers!

7. Offer more sustainable drink options

If you're using a water cooler or offering bottled water, make the switch to a filtered tap system. If offering guests coffee, consider using refillable pods for K-cup or Nespresso machines.

8. Implement a stronger waste management system:

  • educe trash bins & increase recycling bins

  • provide clear signage so people are aware of where the material's headed: Green Circle Salons, regional recycling, or landfill.

  • If possible- dedicate a bin in the staff area for organics composting.

  • By making it harder to locate the 'trash' bin, people will become educated on your waste process and work harder to get it right!

9. Look into becoming a Green Circle Salon!

There is a reason that we love partnering with Green Circles - They are the best at what they do! In Fact, all of April by becoming a Green Circle Salons Member in April you prevent 10,000 plastic bottle from entering the ocean in partnership with Green Circle Salons and Plastic Bank.
